Self-Censor While Teaching - Contribution Made at the February 2008 College Art Association Annual Conference, Dallas, TX
The following story of self-censorship was submitted anonymously on 1/27/2009
I censor myself when talking to my students. They are all or most very religious. I am Jewish and I’m certain how they would react if they knew I wasn’t Christian. I am the only tenure track faculty person on my campus. There were two, but the other person was denied a contract renewal because of his “personality” – it was considered annoying, even though he got wonderful student evals and maintained good research record.
